Smiley 1936 Peromyscus maniculatus (cont.) 2 & mi. SE Hauser, 5200 ft. Washoe Co., Nev. July 15 Twelve of this species caught on north-facing slope of 10° with hard Sedimentary, angular rocks averaging six inches in diameter embedded for half their depth in fine silt-sand. Traps set under Juniper trees spaced 60 feet apart. Artemesia the ground vegetation. Very little grass. July 17 1/2 mi. Creek, 5300 ft., 1/2 mi. E Calif. Line, Washoe Co., Nev. 34 caught on north-facing slope of valley in Artemesia and along rim of valley under Juniperus. See Gen. account for July 16. July 18 Same locality; six caught in fifty of the traps left set. July 20 3 mi. N Vya, 5900 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. 11 caught in area of brown, wind-blowable sand under Artemesia; terrain flatish. sand drifted under bushes 6 inches to 1 foot in depth. July 24 4 & mi. NE Painted Point, 5800 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. 25 specimens in 57 traps set over sand dune area. Sarcobatus major plant. surface of dunes mottled with areas of wind-blowable sand and & hard-packed silt. Dunes in as a linear structure 1/4 mi. long and averaging 15 feet high, 30 feet broad.
