July 3 Left camp on Truckee R. at 8:15 AM after
collecting a robin and a house finch for
Skinning practice. Stopped 1 mile E Verdi
to observe marmot burrow under roadway
and to collect traps set by E.R.Hall.
Rocky exposures in eastern end of Truckee
Meadows; marmots seen sunning here by
E.T.Hooper. Stopped in Reno at P.O. and
Golden Hotel. Left Reno at 10:30 AM; party
of five in Ford and REO truck to
Pyramid Lake, along its western shore
then westward to Flanigan. Camped,
2:00 PM; 1 1/2 mi. NW Flanigan, 4200 ft., Washoe Co., Nev.
Put up robin obtained this morning.
Drove with E.R.Hall to a point 4 mi. NW Flanigan,
4200 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. This in an area
of sand dunes up to five feet high. Major
plant sarco[illegible]tus. Burrows in dunes at base of
plants; small ones covered by sand, mouth of
burrow evident; Large Dipodomys burrows mostly
mouse
not covered. Set 59 traps in dune area
zig-zagging from west to East; distance 1/4 mile.
