Smiley 1936 Perognathus formosans 2 1/4 mi. E Flonigan, 4250 ft, Washoe Co., Nev. July 6 Four taken in area of reddish rock outcrops averaging 6 feet high x 10 feet long - little fractured. Boulders had cracked off outcrops and lay singly or in groups of two to three below outcrops. In addition the sandy soil was partially covered with schistose bits of this rock the size of one's hand which were embedded in the ground, with one surface exposed. Dry, sparse grass on exposed hard-packed sand. Artemesia bushes 20-30 feet apart over this SE-facing slope. July 7 40°28' N, 6 mi. E Calif. Line 4000ft, Washoe Co., Nev. Three caught where rock outcrops were igneous covered by calcareous hot-spring deposit. Admixture of gravel and fine sand made hard surface in which angular rocks 3-8 inches were embedded (lower surface only). Dry grass in gravel-sand area. Slopes 30°-45° N- and E-facing. July 12 1 mi. NE Gerlach, 4000ft, Washoe Co., Nev. In area of reddish lava rock outcrops and angular stones up to one foot in diameter embedded in firm sandy soil, dry grass, one specimen caught, SE-facing slope of 15°.
