JESimpson, 1938 31. 850 ft., Paso McDougal, Pinacate Region, Sonora March 25, 1938, continued his coupe into a ditch; subsequently in rescue work the truck was stuck in the sand. Much time was lost before both car and truck were clear. Mr. Lenon's car had to be dug out from the front, cutting away the ditch-bank and also jacked up &r sticks to be placed for traction; the latter method as employed by Dr. Benson on both vehicles illustrated to the engineer and me a good method of clearing heavy cars dug into soft ground. Mr. Lenon again took the road while we packed the truck before following him. No sign being beforehand agreed upon we missed the turn-off but finally found what we thought was Mr. Lenon's trail. We followed him close; too closely for he turned off the road and went trail-blazing or sight-seeing or both. The worse of his trail was over a muchly-pitted grass field over which we bounced for two or three miles before coming to the road and at a crater found Mr. Lenon with a flat- tire; however, the crater was not Crater Elegante but a smaller one ten miles short of " : 800 ft., Cerro Colorado, 28 mi. W. Sonora, Sonora March 25, 1938, continued We made camp in a creosote-covered cinder field; set out 50 mouse traps in the dark.
