Magdalena, Sonora March 18, 1938 In the 70 mousetraps: 12 (8♂) Peromyscus eremicus, 2 ♂ Perognathus baileyi (♂♀41, ♀♀42); only the two pocketmice put up. Broke camp after lunch; drove thru Santa Ana, La Playa, and Altar. Three miles east of Altar spent night along wash; this stop was 66 miles from first camp. Dr. Benson shot a round-tailed ground squirrel at 1500 ft., 43.5 mi. w. Magdalena, Sonora (♂♀43, JES) March 19, 1938 Entered the above [ground squirrel] in my catalogue after taking measurements; Margarito Delgadillo put it up. Here three miles west of Piquito where truck is being repaired by Dr. Benson for leaking gas line. Traveled all day passing thru Caborca, Tajitos, San Pedro, Garambullo, San Luis, Costa Rica Ranch, and Quitovac to arrive at Sonora in evening. Had excellent dinner at the home of Senor Ignacio Quiroz, who accompanied a komholtz party thru this region when he was a young man. Senor Quiroz knows Dr. Benson, Mr. Dave Johnson, and Mr. Wm Richardson from former trips thru this region. Went outside of town and slept in wash after having spent a delightful evening at a Mexican dance which is the "ball" of the eve of the Spring Fiesta which is tomorrow, Sunday.
