Left Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at
12:30 PM Thursday, March 10, 1938 in University
of California car # 170, an International panel,
half-ton truck, model 1936; Dr. and Mrs. Seth B.
Benson and I in the almost capacity loaded truck.
Without event to San Fernando at 11 pm
that night; stayed overnight at home of Mrs.
Benson's parents. Dr. Benson and I left[illegible] the
next morning at 8 AM for Nogales; however,
generator trouble kept us in San Fernando
until 10:30 AM; drove until 11 pm beyond Coachella, Calit
That night, Friday, March 11, 1938 at 9:30 PM
4 mi. se of White Water, Riverside Co., California_
on US Highway 99 a kit-fox, Vulpes macrotis,
crossed the road in the headlights.
Slept in alkaline field in the rains and
continued to Nogales at 7 am driving 439 miles
to arrive at 10 pm MST. last night.
To-day went across border to Nogales, Mexico_
senior and found, Margarito Delgadillo, who will accompany
Dr. Benson and I, if we can get the truck across the
border. Dr. Benson interviewed Senor MascareƱas_
who was Chief of Customs at Nogales for 16 years.
He inspected our papers and couldn't find anything
out of order. Dr. Benson then attempted to see the
present chief customs official but failed, it being Sunday.
