May 12, 1938, continued.
the records of the Mexican migration office; so we
proceed for Nogales. Slept beside road after driving
until much after dark.
May 13, 1938
Drove into Nogales and went directly to the U.S.
Consulate where Mr. Powell advised us to see the
migration officials. The Jefe received us cordially and,
when told of our dash to Nogales, said it had been
unnecessary for us to return to Nogales until ready to
cross the border for home. Dr. Benson returned to the
U.S. Consulate and informed Mr. Powell of the results.
Bought supplies and drove to:
2600+ ft., 20 mi. S. Santa Ana, Sonora.

On rocky soil among grass and mesquite set
by moonlight 10 Shuyler and 7 wooden rat-traps; live-traps.

Caught 12 Dipodomys spectabilis (307's with broken skulls;
o -> 360-362 and ? 363, 364, 365, 366, 367, 368; check-pouch contained [illegible]),
2 Dipodomys merriami (one ju. and o -> 369), and 3 Perognathus
penicillatus (one ju. and o -> 370, 371).
Broke camp and drove toward Hermosillo; made
camp:
2100+ ft., 45 mi. N. Hermosillo, Sonora.
Set out 50 mousetraps and 7 wooden rat-traps.
Shot a Mountain Towhee.
