JESimpson, 1938. 62. 20±ft., Punta Cirio, 5 mi. s. Puerto Libertad, Sonora. April 28, 1938 From mousetraps in the sand dunes took 3 Perognathus longimembris (♀ 252, 253, 254; cheek-pouches empty), 5 Onychomys torridus (4 juveniles and ♀7255), and 4 Dipodomys merriami (07256-59; cheek-pouch contents saved). From tracks and burrows it was plain that Dipodomys deserti had set off 10-12 traps on a large, little-vegetated sand dune. Both Señor Delgadillo and Dr. Benson helped me kindly to finish up specimens; so we could fish a bit while writing notes; (not ungrateful) I caught a speckled sea-trout (10½ lbs) and a small sea-bass (1st lb); however, we ran out of bait before we even finished our notes and caught no more fish. While we were at the beach the whales were blowing off shore with much noise, the porpoises patrolling (and, I still think, making those aforementioned grunts), and Herman gulls calling and ospreys in the distance. While on trap-line at dawn, I saw an osprey fly out of the sand-dunes and hit the water at an acute angle with much splash, raise off the water shaking itself a couple of times; then a straight drop (not approaching the neat technique of a tern, however) into the water again, but this time came up with a fish which it carried with both feet as it flew back over the sand dunes toward
