B. Sheffer 1976 Journal Mexico: Veracruz, vicinity San Bernardino + Puerto del Aire. 1 Feb. side of the road on this climb). Over the top the fog cleared, & it became dry again. However, after about 10 km. on the dirt road to San Bernardino the fog moved back intermittently, & the oak-pine forest reappeared. We collected at a clearing in the woods ~ 12 km. E. of San Felipe. The road went through a valley, with oak-pine woodland on either side. The south-facing slope was cleared, with many logs + strips to work. Thorius were fairly common under logs + bank, and raking leaf litter. Also, there is a large Pseudoxyrceus under logs + bank. I got one young one under bank. It is brownish above with a red tail. The animal is fairly slender, but heavier than a Thorius. Jim & Carlos got several adults. Carlos found 10 under 1 log! These guys have some really nice mold spots on the top of the tail, & go to a greyish on the side. There is also a reddish ear mark on each side. All told, we got 38 Thorius, 11 Psedus + 4 Scelops. As we were leaving the fog started to roll in- this was so heavy w water that it was raining fairly heavily fog drip. However, the ground still remained pretty dry. Also, on the south facing slope I found & cut about 10 bromeliads- no wider in oaks.
