B. Shaffer 1976 Journal Mexico: Fortin and Cuatlupan, Veracruz. Jan. 30- followed it a couple of kilometers. The road is extremely rough, wet + rotted, and we bottomed out frequently. When we stopped we were at the house of Victor Ceron- in back a finca of Banana, squash, etc. We worked the slope of the mountain, both in and above the banana fields. It is a fairly steep slope, with many rotten banana logs and spots of many rocks. We employed a kid (the son of Victor) at 1 peso per animal to help us out. The most abundant rept was Lineatriton, which was found under small rocks, at elev. 990-1060 m. (this is basically the spread of the area we worked- that is, they were found everywhere). We got 10 Lineatriton- always under small to medium rocks. B. rufescens was again found in banana axils- 7 in all elev. 980-1045 m. Also, I got one on the ground inside of a dead, rotten banana log. Thamnophis were not common. I got 2 under medium sized rocks (revers as a Lineatriton) and Jim got 1 in banana litter type area. Neither Jim nor I got any snakes, but the kid did- 5 Ninia(?)
