Hotel, Tecpan, Dept. San Marcos?
12 July
road in search of more Pseudo. Working the clearings & trails by the road we got ~40 Pseudo, plus ~6 Eleutherodactylus greggi. Also Paul got 2 B. franklini under stores. We were both tired, so we took off for Guatemala City. We left San Marcos ~ 4:30 on the inland road. After dark the car really started to f*ck up - it appeared we were running just off the generator. The lights were very dim, & every time you use any kind of electrical unit (ie. brakes, lights, blinker) everything would die for a second. We decided it was too dangerous & so stopped in Tecpan. This town was demolished by the earthquake & is really in bad shape - a shanty town everywhere. We slept in the only hotel ( 2$/person/night). ate, & slept.
Airplane - Guatemala City -> S.F. Calif.
13-14 July.
This morning to much trouble we started the car & drove into Guatemala City. 1st stop - the airport. We changed my ticket & the 14th (no problem) then went to the Oficina & Hefte de Silvestre to get the export permit. This is very informal - basically get a 10$ piece of official paper available at any pharmacy, & write on it what you have, why, what University you are associated with (with some proof of this)
