B. Shaffer 1979 Journal. Hotel "El Repozo", Dept. Huehuetenango. 3 July. After we put the battery in the car, it still wouldn't start, so it must be in the starter after all. I guess it comes apart in Great City. Well, we left Panajachel ~ noon, & headed back to the border to find "El Repozo". Go past la Democracia by about 5-6 miles, & it's on the left as you go north - a big hotel & gasleneria, about 6 km. from the border. We arrived around 4 & did a laundry in the sink till 5:30 - then I went out & kicked over some logs till 6 - nothing. There is a nice creek in back of the place, but no frogs. We ate at the hotel ($ 2.50 for 2) then went night driving - North to the body, then south past la Democra- cia, then back. We got 1 Rana pipiens & saw a squashed toad - really lousy. We did see a lot of bats, & we going to try for some tonight. We were told that the road to the rabbit locality is impossible, so we are waiting now to catch a ride with a four-wheel drive that might be going that way. El. at El Repozo - 2900 ft.
