Huehuetenango, Dept. Huehuetenango.
July
sample for Lynn. We worked the same area
as before for ~ 1/2 hour, I got 2 rostrata.
Apparently the place needed some time to
recover - so we split also to 1 Barisia.
Strangely, rex were still common, near the
stream & away from it, but rostrata were
definitely rare.
Something I forgot - just before we hit
Santa Eulalia, there was a tremendous noise
& the car stopped. One of the main bolts
holding the rear end up to the body had
shaken unloose, & the rear end came off on
one side. Luckily, the bolt, nuts, & rubber bushing
were all intact, & in the hold of a lot of
improvisation & hammering, we got it all back
together - the car, amazingly, was fine, except
for a rather noisy muffler.
Onward to Paquix. We wanted to get
a series of S. malachiticus, & Paquix seemed
like a good place. Armed w/ the mighty
slingshot, we shot or hand caught 17
Scelops in about 1 - 1 1/2 hours. We then
packed our bags & hit Huehuetenango around
6 PM. We found a really cheap hotel
Hospedaje Viajero - an O.K. room, nice balcony,
& really seedy bathroom, essentially non-functional,
