B. Shaffer 1977 Journal Finea Chiblac, Dept. Hochwetnargo. 2 July. El Valle is a fine place with its low llano & it's large ponds - very impressive site. The climb out is also impressive - about a 1200 ft. climb, straight up. We hit Chiblac around 5:30 - it was extremely overcast but it didn't rain - all night. The only help we got or was one very BIG snake, which we picked up as a voucher - it was before Concepcion somewhere. Next day, we got up early & went up to collect. The situation is sort of tricky, for we don't really have permission to be here. The deal is, the lefter is in Guatemala City 'till Monday or Tuesday, i.e. we need his sanction to be official. The man in charge, Don Luis, gave us the O.K. to stay, but can't give permission to roam the finca. We think that the feeling is he doesn't want responsibility, but will turn his head & not see us - but it's hard to pick up on these things. Anyhow, we went out today to the El Ropa field. Paul has been there, & got all 5 spp. of murenas. We walked up, first through the Barrots, then some cardonum fields, then forest, then up to the quinine field that is El Pomerio. We worked along fine trail & got big browns - a B. helminctia - we animal
