B. Shifflet 1977. Journal Attixco, Puebla, Mexico to Ixcoy, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. (in San Cristobal Hotel 1.00/person) 2-24 June. We only stopped in Tuxtla Gutierrez for a few minutes. Again, this is very flat, dry land- few people, & generally pretty desolate. San Cristobal is nice - & we found a small bookstore in the central park gazebo where we both got a copy of the Reptiles de Chiapas, a very nice books for $10/copy. We then made a small foray into the mountains- took the road to Ocotingo to look for rostrata. But we had to be back at my hotel by 10:30 PM, so we had to abort early. Today we drove from San Cristobal to the Guatemala border. Chiapas is fine - big mtns, very nice looking. We crossed the border uneventfully ($12 total fees) & drove to Huehuetenango. Again, dry scrubby forest. We took the Banilas road out of Huehuetenango - a good dirt road. The drive out here is over a large massif - from 5000' at Huehue up to almost 12,000' at Pajux. The area near the top is flat limestone with grass + Aggare caver - really miserable stuff. Back down the other side a little we stopped & checked out a limestone sinkhole. I got a P. rex out of a crack
