Journal San Ramon trip. 2 Sept. Salamander was caught - the Chiroptotriton picato, Louise saw an Oedipus, but lost it. We finally picked up & went up the road a few tenths of a km. to look for more stuff, but nothing showed up. We decided to make one more foray, I went far along the road to a spot 24.3 km N. of San Ramon, near the Rio Cataratas. There was a pool with several Rana pringles in it near the top of the road, but I could only get one - god only knows where they all got off to. At this point it was getting dark, so we turned around & headed back. My feeling is that this would be a good spot if you are willing to do a lot of work for low yield returns. 9. Sept. Vulcan Barba area. We rented another car, and this time went to a place called "Champipe", which means turkey in Spanish. This is the site of Atelypus serex, a frog that I want very much. A student of Robinsons, one Uriel - is working on them, so we went together. We went due N. out of S. Jose on Hwy 1 to Hevedia, then took Hwy 9 toward Barba. Get on Hwy 114 toward San Jose de la MontaƱa and just keep going. The road goes over the crest of
