Brod Shaffer 1976 Journal Vicinity Zoguitlen, Est. & Pueblo, Mexico 16 Feb. Zoguitlen, like Santos Reyes Papila, is another mountain town off of Mex Hwy 131, and is very similar in habitat type. Again you start at low cactus desert ; more up to pine-oak, always fairly dry. We drove in on the dirt road out of Coxcatlan about 14 km., then walked + hitchhiked into Zoguitlen, another 16 km. or so. We planned to walk another two kms. in some good pine slopes), but the area is cut over for many kms. past town. Therefore, we decided to head back out & work a few good patches of woods that we saw. The area is big in large very cut over pine forest, a few good areas left. However, far to the east past town there are still extremely extensive stands of trees - good for a future foray. In town I saw some tadpoles in a pool in a stream in front of a mans house - we took 30 or so, I I still have a few alive - hopefully they will transform. We then headed out of town - it was at least 75° F (maybe maybe up to 85° ?) I walked ~ 9 kms. to our 1st stop - a south-facing pine & oak slope at d. 2740 m. This was a fairly extensive stand - much cooder than cleared areas, a wet leaf litter, etc. I found Thoris in the novel
