Vicinity Santos Reyes Papalo, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico.
We drove up Mex. Hwy 131 North out
of Oaxaca city to San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán
when we headed east on a dirt road - 23 km.
to the town of Santos Reyes Papalo. We then
went another 8 km. W.E. to our 1st collecting
site at the main hwy. you are at ~ 750 m -
cactus desert w/ no trees - by ~ 1600 m. the
cactus fall out ! you start hitting oak- this
then gradually grades in to pine higher up.
At the 8 km. W.E Papilo locality, we were
at 2670 m. & it was oak + pine w/ a
few madroa + again. This was a very pleasant
slope w/ many good pine logs + stumps, and
many rodes. Only Thorius were found by Jim &
I - they were particularly abundant beneath
wet bark of logs. As per usual, a good way

ground-side of fallen logs. - also inside of
semi-rotten log can be good. Rolling rocks
produced nothing- it was always too dry.
We worked this slope for a couple of
hours, then moved on further along the
ridge. By the time we hit our last locality,
we were essentially at the top of the
crest- perhaps not quite to it. We next
went over the top & hit a locality on
