Vicinity Cuajimoloyas, Est. Oaxaca, Mexico.

a few mist logs. We moved on to the 2nd
stop, 4 km. N. of Cuajimoloyas, at an elevation of
3170 m. Here we worked a very nice slope
where we found Thorius fairly commonly. The
best way to get them was rolling large logs
with bark, & peeling bark that had been on
the ground. However, they were also found
inside rotten logs, under small logs, in stumps, etc.
There seem to be either 2 color morphs
of Thorius here, or 2 species. One is all black
on the dorsal surface, the other is the more
conventional dark with a brown stripe. However,
other body proportions seem to be the same.
In total we got ~50 animals in an hour or 2
of work. We then moved on another 2 km.
to see what happens further on. This next area
has a large cleared area with many logs
about 1/3 the way up the slope to the
left (east-facing) & we decided to work it.
We found more of the same, & the same
type of habitat. We worked up to the top
of the crests & have found another area of cleared
forest to many logs. I got 10 out of 1 log, & Jim
at least that number out of a large rotten log.
We took our ~50 Thorius (again both morphs, but
the black more common this time) & split.
