B. Shaffer 1976. Journal 10 Feb. Cerro Pelon area, Oaxaca, Mexico. We got up & decided to fill in the gaps we had missed along the edge & top of Cerro Pelon. There were still one or 2 inter- mediate places, plus the saddle & top of the mtn itself. Thus The southern exposure of the mtn is quite dry all over, but it does have these wet logs we've been getting animals under. However, once over the top, the drop down to cloud forest is truly amazing. Our first stop was 6km. the Exiloba locality & the Llano de las Flores, a place 33 km. N. of Guelatao. This area was much like the abandoned house locality - dry oak & pine on a fairly mild slope. We started to turn logs & tear-open stuff. & I got several Thorius peeking back & working rotting cedar logs. Again in the shade they were much closer to the surface & easier to get at. On a sunny I worked a west and north facing slope - on a South facing slope under a rock, Jim got a Redinia - like snake - yellow w/ dark lines, & really nice. In all we got about 20 Thorius & decided to leave. Then, up by the road, turning stones I picked up a small Thamnophis coiled under a rock in the sun. We turned most of the other rocks in the area to no avail.
