B. Shiffy 1476 Journal. 9. Feb Vicinity Llano de las Flores, Oaxaca, Mexico: hillside. It is covered with lots of oak logs & rodes, which can be good Thoriux cover. By rolling logs & peeling bark one can get many animals. Jim got 43 under 1 log, & I got 15 under another. The best log seems to be a medium, non-rotten log set in the ground to loose bark. In all we got ~125 thorius. Jim also got me hutchling Pseudoeurycea under bark of a large log, ~2 ft. off of the ground - it looks like a hutchling smithii. No other herps were caught. This area is cold at night - it definitely goes below freezing at this time of year. Thus, the reason that animals are not as thick as they are in summer may be moisture, or it may be temp- erature - no other herps were seen, & we headed to [illegible] Ixtlan to sleep. Also, we did night driving at the road cut off of Machin - two spots, one east & one west. Unfortunately it was very dry & we got nothing. we did in right side on the 2, not the Wth [illegible] good gradient Hwy. 175. dirt road xxxxx Machin - [rectangle] dirt road xxxxxxx {good gradient
