Mexico - Oaxaca near Vista Hermosa.
7 Feb.
headed up to the Casa of Fernando Abandonado
to see if he had any animals. He had none, but
we were told that they do exist there. Again
we wanted many fallen logs, peeling bark,
etc. at hand. Absolutely nothing. By this point
it was getting wetter, and ~7qom. & the
rainforest is starting to move in. However,
it was still somewhat clean at this house,
although we got 1 shower. The lowlands in
general are really hard to work, & I
suspect that salamanders are essentially
absent during the dry season.
Mexico: Oaxaca - vicinity of Vista Hermosa.
8 Feb.
We got up & drove back up to Vista Hermosa,
where we worked another locality. This is off
of a trail directly west of Vista Hermosa town-
downhill into the forest. It is in back of a house
so there are many fallen logs, which we
worked, as well as trees & bromeliads.
Also, many of the felled trees have live
bromeliads which were as rich as
the ones on upright trees for amphio-
canos. All told we got 5 animals - 3
Pseudoeurycea type salamanders, a Hylo +
a Susto Syrrhopus type hybrid. The latter frog
was found by Jim in the center of
