B.Shaffer 1976 Journal Mexico - Oaxaca near Vista Hermosa. 7 Feb. headed up to the Casa of Fernando Abandonado to see if he had any animals. He had none, but we were told that they do exist there. Again we wanted many fallen logs, peeling bark, etc. at hand. Absolutely nothing. By this point it was getting wetter, and ~7qom. & the rainforest is starting to move in. However, it was still somewhat clean at this house, although we got 1 shower. The lowlands in general are really hard to work, & I suspect that salamanders are essentially absent during the dry season. Mexico: Oaxaca - vicinity of Vista Hermosa. 8 Feb. We got up & drove back up to Vista Hermosa, where we worked another locality. This is off of a trail directly west of Vista Hermosa town- downhill into the forest. It is in back of a house so there are many fallen logs, which we worked, as well as trees & bromeliads. Also, many of the felled trees have live bromeliads which were as rich as the ones on upright trees for amphio- canos. All told we got 5 animals - 3 Pseudoeurycea type salamanders, a Hylo + a Susto Syrrhopus type hybrid. The latter frog was found by Jim in the center of
