went away from it - most of these bus
stops seem to be along ridges, & all of
the ridges look like they have trails on them.
*This area is basically unwalkable unless you
are on a trail - the forest is incredibly
thick. However, on this trail, often going from
a few hundred yards, the forest thinned
a bit, so that passing through it is possible.
Off of the trail we found many
bromiliads, but no Salamanders. I dropped
on very big bromilids form ~ 15-20 ft.
up in an oak tree - & we found 2
chortoses-green hylas in it. However
nothing else was seen, in perhaps 50
bromiliads. Also, nothing under bark on logs.
We took off around dark - soaking wet from
intermittent rain & went back
to Tuxtpec to get gas. Also,
* Before arriving at this area we stopped
at the town of Yelila - a possible Bolitoglossa
locality. We asked the best local people, &
they knew salamanders. With a flash of
translating brilliance, Jim got ~ 15 people
looking for animals - but none showed up; we turned
a lot of rocks in a river flood plain, tore up rotten
logs, peeled bananas, etc - nothing. We then
