of Boto Marinos out, but didn't stop. We stayed in Tuxtapes that night. Also, we worked some banana fields before crossing the ferry, but got nothing - the water in the bananas was hot - ~ 25°C, & prob. the animals were elsewhere - even spiders were scarce.
Mexico: Oaxaca, near Vista Hermosa
7 Feb.
We drove out past Valle National to our 1st collecting site - just south of Vista Hermosa, in a small clearing. It is really wet up here - heavy duty rain forest w/ lots of bromeliads & constant fog or drizzle. We hit a small clearing - looks like where a path was started, or a mudslide went. We worked it for about 100 yards, until the rainforest closed in. I got 2 salamanders from 1 bromeliad - 1 therius + 1 Chirop. This was from a small bromiliad, ~ 8" tall. I also got another Chirop, & Jim got a Chirop, 2 Hyla, & 1 Eleutherodactylus, all from bromeliads.
This area has a high animal: bromiliad density - pupups 1:2 or 1:3. UN fortunately, there were few bromiliads w/in reach. Turning rocks gave no animals. We then moved on the road about 22 km to a bus stop to a trail going
