investigate them. On the mountain, however, the forest starts as soon as you start to climb. It is extensive & seemingly virgin forest. The area has a large mixed species forest, with bromeliads and many good logs to turn & peel- however, they appear to be natural. Upon first entering the forest, we cut some bromeliads, but w/o luck. A little further on, we [illegible] find the first Pseudoeurycea [crossed out] wateri under a small log. We worked this area some more - got several more Pseuds, & I got 6 Thorius under leaf litter and small logs. We continued up the trail finding Pseuds + Eleutherodactylus family regularly. The Pseuds were under logs, under bark, & inside of rotten logs. We did not notice the correlation made by Shannor, who says these salamanders are under logs when low temp, & under bank off of the ground at higher elevations - for they were found on the ground at ~ 4000 ft + inside of logs at 3000-2500-ft. The Eleutherodactylus were under logs, or just out hopping around. At least 2 species were found - one is small & solid brown - the other has a very distinctive mid-dorsal stripe, & is much less common (we got 2 only)
