Red-eyed Cowbird May 30 ♀ which was feeding 2 feet away. He seemed He approached to within a foot of this ♀, his flapping increasing in speed and becoming more puffed up. Suddenly the ♀ stopped feeding and made a quick dash to about 6" in front of the ♂ where she stood quietly. He at once rose in the air and hovered exactly as before. He then descended as before and made 3 hops forward - the whole performance seem- ingly, exactly as before. Before he could mount the ♀ walked away and started feeding. He relaxed - his feathers no longer fluffed out-, after standing for 5-10 seconds he flew to a feed tray and fed for 5 minutes or more - paying no further attention to the ♂ which were now feeding on the floor below. End of observations.
