May 30 ♀ which was feeding 2 feet away. He seemed
He approached to within a foot of this ♀, his
flapping increasing in speed and becoming more
puffed up. Suddenly the ♀ stopped feeding
and made a quick dash to about 6" in
front of the ♂ where she stood quietly. He at
once rose in the air and hovered exactly as
before. He then descended as before and made
3 hops forward - the whole performance seem-
ingly, exactly as before. Before he could mount
the ♀ walked away and started feeding.
He relaxed - his feathers no longer fluffed
out-, after standing for 5-10 seconds he
flew to a feed tray and fed for 5 minutes or
more - paying no further attention to the ♂
which were now feeding on the floor below.
