C. humilis 96 Rio Juanol, 14 mi. E Nultepec, Oaxaca May 3 I believe that humilis occurs more often strictly in pairs than does nigricaudatus - but then it is late in the year now & possibly groups have broken up and pairs are establishing themselves - this might account for unfinished nests. May 4 Wren singing outside hotel in Tehuantepec - ?la - weet. 6.5 and 5 mi. E Tequisitlan, ±1000 ft., Oaxaca - These wrens are probably as common in the cactus - deciduous tree forest as in the lowlands of Tehuantepac. A large aceroscous cactus, 15-25 feet, and a thin-padded tuna type are very common. The latter grows to about 7-8 feet high. There are a variety of deciduous trees, most of which have no flowers or leaves. The thin agave - like plant is common beneath the larger cactus trees. The small evergreen shrub which occurred at the Rio Juanol is a small tree here.
