Tonala to Tres Picos, Chiapas, Mexico
April 12 Foreston hills is in leaf - but apparently just starting -
Many totally bare elements. Flat land vegetation is
the same I am sure. There is a low pass in the
hills over the other large sandy hill is plainly
visible. (Our map seems correct so far.) This
apparently where Rio la Polka to passes. We crossed
it - it was dry. A few amates, palme, guanacastes
around the town which is located immediately adjacent
to the Rio la Polka. The land surrounding the town
is the typical low deciduous forest - this
vegetation type seems uniform and extensive.
Many small mango trees around houses,
Much ti to poste on the hills in the deciduous
forest vegetation especially in arroyos.
Large areas of decid. forest burned for farming
in the lowlands - whole area probably has
been cleared several times. Just beyond
town hills come to water; less than 2 blocks of
the water 'for as for a mile or so there is
no flat land as the hills approach the water
edge 2-3-4 blocks close.
