Caloultta - Psilorhina
4
San Fernando to La Florida
April 28 I believe they stay lower in the trees - at about the
top of the under-story - rather than perching high
in that tree in an exposed position as does Caloutta.
I do not have enough observations to be certain of
this difference however.
After 3 hours of travel (5.4 miles) we came to a
clearing just beyond the forest level at the top of
a descent into the Rio Florida Valley). Here the
vegetation was of a more dry type & more open.
Noted Caloultta in a large guanacaste tree. Also
several Campylorhynchus zonatus centering their
activities about a palm (not coconut) in the clear-
ing. Other birds noted here were hermit thrush,
Saltator atriceps, Cassiulus melanotus (supposed
to occur only near Tonala' - field Blake - but also
around Tuxtla field Alvarez - and I noted nests
on road to Ocosocoautla), social flycatcher,
