Tuxtla Gutierrez, 1800ft, Chiapas, Mexico
Oct.7 Met Alvarez up near the lookout point near
Semiclero - He was up there with his family
and another man & his wife, Said he couldn't
see the governor today because it was a holiday.
Some story!!
There is an arroyo south of Tuxtla which
leads to the top of the hills - the "Arroyo
San Roque" or "La Toma". There is supposed
to be a path from Tuxtla to the top of the hill
which runs up the arroyos & through some
good forest. Chordeiles minor occurs on top
of the hill, at least according to Alvarez.
I am going to Villa Allende tomorrow with
Bonifacio Guillen.
Oct.8 Took taxi up to Villa Allende (= San Fernando),
about 11 miles NW of Tuxtla. Cost = 25 pesos.
There are no hotels there but telephone is
available. Bus leaves San Fernando for Tuxtla
each day at 3:00 P.M. Talked with a friend
of Alvarez's - a Sr. Ruben Diaz - who has
a farm on the west side of town. He introduced
me to a Sr. Helfego Dias who will act as
a guide up to Santa Rita (about 5 miles to
the north in the hills). He wants 6 pesos/day.
Sr. Ruben Diaz has horse for the trip. Arranged
to meet Sr. Helfego at 7:30 A.M. Saturday.
Will camp at Santa Rita for a week.
