R.K.Selander, 1953 18 Oct. 6 3 mi. NNE Tuxtla Gutierrez, 1900 ft., Chiapas, Mexico Cloudy but no rain during the day. Hunted up along the road to Sumidero in the deciduous "forest" and scrub vegetation. Much grass and many herbs (including a tall orange composite [illegible] and Convulvulus) on the ground. Mesquite like-tree common along with some larger trees. Trees spaced like in an orchard in some places. Here Calocitta was most numerous. (Here photographs). Bonifacio said "Tapacaminos" are common here at dusk. Noted flock of 10 Aratinga canicularis (1 specimen), many white winged doves (common in "orchard"), Paterna juxtulatus, Megarynchus pintaguya (common), gnateatcher, Thyrothone pleurostictus, several large hawks, 1 unidentified cuckoo, Centurus sp. (common in orchard), Empidonax sp - near streambed in dense vegetation, Calocitta formosa, unidentified humming [Pterodroma ammena] (specimen ?). Alvarez said 4 Chordeiles minor were flying around the Plaza this evening hunting moths. Also, he saw 4 green jays at the Museo today. Two Americans from the Univ. Wisconsin came into Tuxtla today and are at the Hotel Banampak. Had dinner with them, a Dr. Fawcett (sp?) and a graduate student [Arroyage(sp?)]. They were on their way to Nicaragua via Tonala - Tapachula in a jeep station wagon [illegible] yesterday.
