90 Guadalajara -> Tepic, Nayarit June 19 calling in the tree. There work in toward the limbs of the trees - not out on fine twigs - they seem again again. Calls are almost same as jocinuos. They have the deep "cortez wara" call as well as more nasal-type notes. There is little doubt of the similarity of note. Certainly there is no melodious song. I cannot describe the notes as a "rattle" as does Pitelka, hhowever. We drove to Guadalajara, stayed in a motel where I skinned 7 birds before going to bed at 12:00. Crossed good bunneicofelles country before arriving at Guadalajara. Fair cortez wara (bunneicofelles) habitat in region of Zamora, + Lake Chapala - but it is probably not optimum. June 20 up at 8 - skinned rest of birds and spent rest of morning shopping for pottery. We then drove to Tepic, Nayarit, crossing fair desert (cortez wara habitat) and then descending from the plateau thru a very long winding barranca where there was good oid tropical climate, note unlike that in Oaxaca. A few mangos & dananas grown here. Finally climbed a bit thru rather dry pine forest & entered valley of Tepic. Stayed in hotel. In late afternoon we
