88 Vicinity of Pátzcuaro June 18 Drove down to Pátzcuaro and stayed in hotel where we skinned birds. Before going to hotel I June 20 made short hunts - one at a point 2mi. S Pátzcuaro in more or less cut over dry, open pine forest and the other in good oak forest or thick woodland 5mi. S. Blue mockingbirds, Turdus assimilis at latter spot but no wrens at either place. Still it was in afternoon, birds were in - activity and my hunt was limited. June 19 Immediately surrounding lake Pátzcuaro is dry and there is a mixed stand of Zuma cartus & legum- inosus low elements. Just a short distance up on the slopes from the lake pine forest begins. S of the lake this soon gives way to a rather humid oak or oak-pine forest. I hunted for several hours along rock fences near Chupícuaro in cartus, leguminous bushes + other low vegetation. Chats - Pipilo fuscus were abundant. Song sparrows along the edge of the lake in semi- morshy situation - but no callos wrens. A few T. hewicki. I wonder if gulonis doesn't occur in the neighboring pine forest or
