15mi. NNW Tacambos, 9000ft.
June 16 of calling. I collected 2 luises as they foraged
silently about 10 feet above the ground. Then
a lone bird flew into a large pine and gave a
horse call (not remembered) and I collected it
also. This call may have been an attempt to
locate other luises of the group.
These luises have a triplet call which I have
never heard zonatus give. I did hear a similar
call given by nelsoni, however. - A long call:
Che-cha-cha-chechoche, che-che-che
etc, etc; the triplets coming very fast and producing
a "rolling" sound - the notes almost seeming
to overlap on one another. This may be given by
more than one bird. I did not hear any "flight
calls" today. Calls of these luises do not differ
from those of luises collected near Puerto Carnica.
This species is always found in groups - thus may be
"contact" as the first one encountered today or more
"open" as the second found today. The calls - at least
some of them - probably serve purpose of keeping the
members of the group in contact.
- Martinis (sp?) flying over camp in late afternoon
with some swallows.
Took 6 or so color photos of this area, including
several of slope where I hunted this morning.
Clouded a bit just before dark after 2 hours of
rain this afternoon.
