83 15 mi. NNW Tacámbero, 9000 ft. June 15 may occur in the desert vegetation around the lake. Driving south of Pátzcuaro we entered good pine and oak woodland - especially good Sni. S. The combae Lea Edwards took gulacio . At the branching of the roads we took the right road leading to Arriola Rosales - this did not climb much - only to ±8000 feet maybe less and there was no good forest along the highway. Apparently, this road skirts the higher country while the road to Tacámbero climbs into higher country . Rain falling very heavily and a heavy fog made driving difficult . We then returned to the fork of the roads and headed out towards Tacámbero, finally camping at the summit of the road - ±9000 ft I judge . Rain falling as we set up tent and continued thus most of the night. Cold. June 16 Up at 6:00. We are camped in a stand of Arbutus near the highway. Near our camp is an old, tall oak tree covered with moss and other epiphytes . There is a cleared field - then another row of madrone - another cleared field - and finally a stand of timber on a sloping cerro. The flat land is either in corn or grazing but there are stands of timber remaining on the hills and slopes. However, the timber stands adjacent to the fields have been cleared - ± 1/2 of the trees cleared I judge - for lumber? or for other reasons. On higher slopes some distance off
