80 Vicinity of Ixtapan de la Sal June 14 Hunted about 3 mi. from Ixtapan de Sal and at some elevation on road to Coatepec in a stand of juniper and leguminous short trees . Saw Thryomanes bewickii, goldfinch, and Melospiza kienneri . We are apparently below the oak belt. The region is formed and the flat valleys are either in corn or are bare except for a cover of grass. Hunted along stream (first one crossed after leaving Ixtapan) just before it goes into deep gully. Veg: few small junipers and mixed leguminous a broad- leafed elements - similar to last place I hunted. Saw goldfinch (aloud and), blue mockingbird, T. felix song, canyon wren, cliff swallow nests on cliff. Took picture of Taxco Mts from not far down road from Coatepec. There seem more or less continuous with Toluca Mts, (#9) Picture # 10 Looking S across Amayo which leads near Coatepec in which I hunted. Picture # 1 View of Tenancingo north of the town.
