74a Puerto Harnea 1 June 8 Once I shot a bird which was foraging 100ft. or so up in a pine . It fell calling and was followed down to the ground by two other birds which dove at it + gone scawking , excited calls . I saw one bird cling to a fir trunk near the ground . When I approached closely - all birds flew . These wrens are not really wary however - it is just that they seem constantly on the move - especially early in the morning . Just before 9:00 I found a lone bird foraging in a small oak near a native cabin -about 10 feet up. The bird made no sound as I watched for several minutes . Just after collecting this bird I walked past another small oak, heard a single soft call - turned to see a wren foraging ~ 7feet from the ground . This bird also called. Saw no preference for any type tree . Occurred in all types - pine - oak - fir . Calls - )a staccato , syncopated 1T) 1 T , given by pair of birds . Common + similar to call of Zonatus ' che 2) [ { ] - given by lone bird repeatedly x loudly . 3) I > o' , P J - che - cha - common. 4) a rambling staccato series of che or chit notes given whenever a pair moves - given in flight + core bond to flight call of zonatus .
