Mexico City, Mexico
Sept. 30 At that point I was thankful to get the things
at almost any price.
Since the Forestal y Caza office closed at 2:30 PM,
I was unable to get down there to see about a permit.
Decided to risk using my old permit if questioned.
Returned to Hotel Geneva where I concealed
the gun in the sleeping bag and removed the labels
from the ammunition box, replacing them with
labels stating that the box contained "sports
equipment." Decided this would avoid any
trouble getting them on the plane to Tuxtla in the
morning.
Oct. 1 At airport at 5:00 A.M. Checked luggage through
to plane without difficulty. Very cloudy and
slight rain falling. At 5:30 I was told that
there was only a 50-50 chance that the plane
would be able to land at Tuxtla because of the
weather. Had tickets changed so that I could
get off at Ixtapex if necessary and remain
the night, catching the plane to Tuxtla tomorrow.
Was charged about $7.00 for excess baggage to Ixtapex.
Left Mexico City at 6:30. Very cloudy from
there to Caxaca, so I saw little of the country -
just a few glimpses. Managed to get a photograph
of Pico de Orizaba, however,
at Ixtapex I was told that there was only a 50-50
chance of getting into Tuxtla. Decided to take it,
