67 Toluca, México June 4 Stayed in Hotel Colonial in Toluca where we skinned 8 birds. Very tired after our long trip. June 5 Had car greased, bolt on generator changed, wheelspoked at Ford place in Toluca. Drove to Quetzalcoatl Motel just outside of Tuxpan, Michoacan, where we stayed for the night. The owner mentioned that Richard Van Gelder from the Illinois Natural History Museum had stayed for 2 weeks at the motel last December collecting herps. Collected Pefilo furcus on gravel driveway of the motel. June 6 Drove along highway toward Morelia then pine woodland. At Km 276 I saw a C. galactis cross the highway and fly into clumps (see photo 3-Pall 29). The road climbed into high mountains with rich pine or pine-oak forest as a good fir-oak-pine forest in higher parts. At Puerto Mil Cumbres the good humid forest - habitat of megalopterus bogina. At Puerto Barrica (Km. 258.4) I took photos 4 & 5. This is very good megalopterus habitat and is about the place where Silletook a specimen which he labelled 30 mi. E Morelia. We then drove to the point where the road turns south to Tzitzio & Huetamo and drove down to a point 3.5 mi. NW Tzitzio, 6000 ft. -where we camped a mile off road. Our camp was about 25 mi. above (=NW) of San Juan de los Banos - the place where Doniso Lomé camped. The country is very hilly - with the land sloping off abruptly to the south. There are fair stands of pines high near the highway but around Tzitzio there is little pine (conforms to Davis' report).
