Selandas, 1954 60 El Mogote, Guerrero May 31 casti - Even so , the area looks as if it would be good place for joceros to occur. There is a large barranca west of us - presumably that of the Red ChontalCoastlin'. The entire area is covered with nearly uniform arid tropical forest similar to that in which we are camped. We are at the edge of the mountains which drop off rapidly just south of our camp into the lower one around Grutas and, Western Morelos. There is more than 1000 feet drop between our camp and Cozoyotla or Telecala, Morelos. Grutas is located 3/4 or so of the way down & El Mogote is located at about 5000 ft - to judge from maps - while Teocala is at approx 3100 feet. The most abrupt drop is between El Mogote and Grutas. Tune beetles of 10 or more types coming to lamp at night. June 1 Hunted around camp from 7:30-10:00. I saw only one C.joiosus, which I collected - an adult o>, I was working along a rocky road when I heard a call which suggested a cactus wren - but I couldn't decide it. As I entered the edge of the forest this wren flew up to the top of a tree with something in its bill. After collecting this wren I saw another wren carry material to a nest 12 feet up in a tree (broad- leaved). I thought this also was a cactus wren but it proved to be Thryothorus pleurostictus. The nest was nearly completed.
