Sept. 29 6:10 A.M. Tomorrow (Sept. 30) and made a reservation on the 6:10 A.M. flight on Oct. 1.
In talking to Mr. Shone I mentioned having gotten some hints at the aeropuertos Aduana office [that] duty would be charged on the gun and ammunition. He said that nothing can be done if the Mexicans decide to charge duty - it apparently is their privilege to do so on any possession brought into Mexico. Shone felt that it would be wise to pay the duty, if in fact it is charged, since he thought it would not be excessive.
Returned to Hotel Genere (having registered there before going to the Embajada early this morning). Have room for $30.00. Borrowed a typewriter from Travel Bureau and wrote a request which I will give to General S. Homego tomorrow morning. Letter was drafted from several other letters which I have, along with the help of the trusty dictionary. I threw the whole works about Science and the museums in there, so it should be satisfactory.
Sent telegrams to Dr. Pitelka and to my wife. Had dinner ($12.00), then went up to room to get my papers sorted and write notes. Bonnie called from San
