47. Region of Rio Papaloapan, Veracruz May 24 Papaloapan. Several birds occur here which we did not see at our camp farther north along the Rio Atoyac. These are ant tanager, a blue tanager (?), scissor- tailed flycatcher, various herons along the river. May 25 Raining hard this morning. Loaded our things into car and drove from Cosamaloapan to Tehuacan, Puebla. Roll 27: color # 5 - 15 mi. from Cosamaloapan looking E. #6 Vines 20 mi. from Cosamaloapan #7 2 mi. N Tierra Blanca at same spot where we collected Rufinucha few days ago. I hunted other side of road in what seemed to be perfect Rufinucha habitat - no wrens. #8 overlooking our camp on Rio Metlac. 9,10, 11 - Acultzingo grade 12 "La Puerta". When we reached "La Puerta" the owner of the local store would not give us permission to camp, explaining that the area is a game preserve and that permission would have to be obtained in Orizaba or in Tehuacan. I took a shot of the area (Roll 27 #12) and then we drove to Tehuacan and spent the night in the Hotel Mexico. We bought food and I bought 300 traps for 16 gauge shells and 100 #57 primers for Remington 16 gauge shells (30 pesos in all). May 26 Drove out in the morning to a point 5 mi. N Tehuacan and stopped at side of road for breakfast. I heard Cygnus calling on the slope so we decided to camp here for 2
