SSW Boca del Rio, 100 ft., Veracruz, Mexico V May 18 Sceloris (one pair), Aratinga, a large Amazona sp., laughing falcon, Ortalis retula (abundant), Colinus virginianus, Ramphocelus nigriventris (beneath tree in dark-thicket of trunks & talle bushes), Geospiza leucogastra (same habitat as Ramphocaelus), Platysaris aglaiae (common), a large yellow-bellied miceo sp., Thamnophilus daliatus (common), Synallaxis erythrorhynax (common), Myrmodynestes luteiventris (?), Pitangus, Empidonax alliguloris, Detono gularis, Volatinia joracina. V May 19 Hunted over about the same territory as yesterday. The wood-ticks are so common here that it will be impossible to continue hunting unless we can get some repellent for them in Veracruz. Last night I had to get up several times to rub myself with alcohol to stop the itching. This morning the brown Jays started calling about 1 hour before it was light - they are the first bird to become active. V May 20 Spent day reading in Veracruz where we bought medicines for tick bites. While returning to camp I saw 4 Chodelos minor flying low over marshy field near Boca del Rio. Their behavior was that of resident birds, not migrants. One was seen to land on a small rise near the road. V May 21 Drove to Ciudad Miguel Aleman and returned. At a point & 1 mi. SSE La Tunaja we saw 6 Chodelas minor flying low over ground in rain storm. Termites were flying commonly. I watched one night-hawk "boom" several
