36 Barranca de Natzloc, 3250ft., Veracruz, Mexico. May 11 Hunted down river to bridge in lianana tree stand and up the steep slope to the railroad tracks without seeing any wrens. Psilorhimes common and calling most of day but failed to hear the "popping" noises. Noted Xanthoura yucos, Saltator atriceps, Wilsonia junilla, dipper (along stream), several types grwales, a tree squirrel, and grackles. There are a pair of round flycatchers nesting in a cactus tree near the electric plant. Returned to the tent & shot 3 cactus wrens on slope above camp. May 12 Hunted in coffee & lianana plantation 2 mi N Fortin, 3200ft., collecting Saltator atriceps (common), Xanthura yucos, a jayng owl, and a brown jay. Noted also Deives deves, conbird, Thraupis albot, Turdus grayi. Birds uncommon in the groves & coffee & most birds occur in few remaining nativo trees which are found along some of the gullies. In late afternoon we drove to Orizaba to buy small shot (30 pesos) and florigents (Carbon Disulfide - moth balls). Small shot purchased at the "Cometa" across the street from the plaza - cathedral. May 13 Hunted 4 mi. W Fortin, 3400 feet in a coffee plantation but with fair stands & mixed coffee-original forest trees. Birds more common than in coffee plantation visited yesterday. Took C. zonatus, Jetuns gallula (given to Lamb), Deives deves (to Lamb), Wilsonia junilla (to Lamb) and noted Xanthoura, Saltator atriceps, Turdo
