After running from office to office (with the Lt. handling the whole deal) we finally got the signature of General Juan Beristain Ladron de Guevara, El Gral. de Brig. D.E.M. Jefe del E.M., on a mimeographed form-letter-type permit which allows me to use and carry the gun in Mexico. (without help I don't doubt but that several weeks or months would be required to run through the procedure in getting a permit of this type. The Lt. carried my papers from office to office and placed them on top of the piles of similar documents — so that signatures and O.K.s were had quickly). After getting the permit I took a taxi to the aeropuerto, expecting to pick up the gun and shells — but apparently another permit is required, since while my first permit (from the Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional) allows me to use the gun it says nothing about actually importing it (i.e. getting
