Vicinity of Iguicar de Malamuros, Puebla
Along stream near our tent I collected a pair of Thryothorus
felix - in scrubby growth beneath Taxodium trees - They
stayed well down in the bushes - the ♀ had a brood-
patch. About 40 feet away I saw a Canyon Wren working
out of a large crack in the face of a vertical rock cliff -
the bird flew into the Taxodium tree adjovent to the cliff
after I fired and missed. Saw a pair of Melanotis
caeruleus along river valley as if they had a nest
nearby. Also along the river are Sporophila torquata,
and Contopus sp. Red-wing blackbirds common along road
from camp to Malamoros. Barn swallows common &
some cliff swallow also, Chordeiles acutipennis fairly
common - fly at dusk. Also heard call of A. minor.
We drove to an spot near Chinela and hunted in
the morning for cootus wrens. Aimophila humalis
common. Also Toxostoma curirostre, Chordeiles
acutipennis. Skinned birds in afternoon then drove
along highway, making several stops S of Malamoros
for cootus wrens (no species accounts). No rain this
evening. Hooded skells in afternoon - we are running
out of ammunition so it will be necessary to buy a
supply of .410 ammunition in Puebla and re-load these
shells with dust shot. I gone home 50 16 gauge
shell cases & 100 .38 cases in exchange for 3
Kilos of small shot which I could not buy in
Puebla.
