Selander, 1954 21 Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chis., Mexico April 24 Examined a specimen of Caprimulgus in Alvarez's collection which he believed to be C. salmini but it really a f C. carolinensis, a bit browner than the specimen I took near San Cristobal earlier this week. I selected 25 skins from Alvarez' collection -- there Dr. Pitelka is buying from Alvarez at $2.00 each. Included are some curious specimens of Otus, a [illegible] Nyctibius gusseio, and an [illegible] oriole which Alvarez claims is new for Mexico (= Icterus maculolatus) Cerro Brujo -- according to Alvarez this is a mountain (6 hours ride on horse 1/5 of Ocozocoautla) where there is good cloud forest with guetzal and other typical cloud- forest birds. F. Miranda collected there and Alvarez has visited the place but doesn't remember collecting Cactus wrens. In any event he has sold none of those to MadKorb. April 25 Bought food and drove to Ruben Diaz' place at Villa Allende. It is now possible to drive to his house as there is a road in construction (?) out of Villa Allende. Actually very little if anything has been done on this proposed road to Quetzchula and in the wet season or after a heavy rain it would be impossible to go beyond the center of town. It is impossible even now to drive more than a block or so beyond (up the canyon) Ruben Diaz's house. Noted several Calocitta formosa in the deciduous forest below Villa Allende.
