9 mi. SE San Cristobal, 9300ft., Chia, Mexico
April 21 to hunt east up the canyon. A short distance from the
car I found a nest in an oak, located +- 25 feet
above the ground on a large, nearly horizontal
branch. Blue mockingbird seen in the thick, thorny
thickets beneath the oaks - collected one.
I returned to the car where Bonnie had collected
one near a large pine tree - I collected another
in about the same spot. We heard various
pairs calling and saw several more long flights
from high in a tree, across the road to another slope.
Returned to San Cristobal late in afternoon to pre-
pare specimens. Heavy rain until a little hail late
in afternoon but clear during the night.
April 22 Working in the worn-area 9 mi. SE where we
collected a large series of specimens. At 3:00 P.M.
we drove to the Hotel Colon near San Cristobal
and stayed the night, skinning specimens in our
room.
April 23 Returned to Tuxtla Gutierrez and stayed at the Hotel
Bonampak. Had truck greased and oil changed and other
minor repairs.
April 24 Had rear door fixed at the Anza Garage.
