3 mi. SSW Tonalá', 100 ft., Chiapas, Mexico
March 20 Hunted NW of Tonalá' in the truck until about 1:00
P.M. Returned to camp and spent afternoon preparing
specimens. Noted Calioptila formosa at all our stops
today and around camp. They are moving about the
area in small, noisy flocks and seem to be very
abundant. Lamb took Amblycercus today a 2
I noted several NW of Tonalá'. Heard a laughing
falcon calling in late evening near camp and
just after dark two pygmy owls heard calling
near camp. Bonifacio shot a pauraque 5.4 mi. NW
Tonalá' but blew it to pieces. Lamb's long took
several Joturus gularis today not far from camp.
March 22 An Irea done has a nest with two young in a low
bush 15 feet from Lamb's tent. Young are only a
few days old. Hunted around camp and spent
morning watching wrens. Heard two pygmy owls
calling at 7:00 across road from camp.
March 23 Pale-billed woodpecker in tree across road from
camp. Heard pygmy owls calling most of the night.
Drove to Quetzalapa.
March 24 Hunting along road from Tonalá' to Ocuilopa.
Met July Davis & a Mr. Kincaid on the road in
the morning.
March 25 Working SE Tonalá'. Took intermedius between
lunulisi and nigricaudatus.
March 26-30 Working around Tonalá', (See accounts of cactus
wrens).
