R.K.Selander, 1954 11 1.5 mi. NE Los Amates, 2600 ft., Chiapas, Mexico March 18 The gizzard and gullet contained several large beetles and remains of other insects - apparently beetles. Lamb said that he has not taken this species at this locality. March 19 Drove from camp to Tonalá. & Tonalá we learned that the Presidente - Juan Trinidad Lopez- is staying at his place at Puerta Arista. We drove 3 & mi. from Tonalá along the road to Puerta Arista and made camp near the road under a large mango tree. We noted a pair of C. chiapensis in the trees across the road from our camp. In late afternoon we drove to Puerta Arista and visited with the Presidente. Several hundred Mexicans are camped at Puerta Arista. We returned to camp just before dark. Lamb had collected on C. chiapensis, a liecard, on Aimophila rugicanda ,and several other ludivo. Many ants and small ticks here around camp but few mosquitos . The roads are very dry and dusty. The Presidente told me that the past year has been unusually dry. All the rivers and streams are dry, including the large Rio Saratenco near Tonalá. Noted Cassicus melanicetus, Caridix mexicanus , Amazona allifrons, Valentinia jocarina, blacksmiths, a cacacara today on way to Puerta Arista. Also noted several Caloutta formosa along the road.
